Ohio Amateurs Make Their Mark at AQHA More OAQHA directors attended this year’s convention in San Antonio than any other in years past. They represented the interests of Ohio Quarter Horse Amateur members throughout the four-day event by sharing their concerns at committee meetings, attending industry workshops and participating in the general membership meeting itself. At that meeting, each member voted on some hot button issues including the addition of 13 & Under core classes at the Youth World which passed by overwhelming support. After the convention, our Amateurs took their commitment to the industry even further by applying to join AQHA committees themselves. We are proud to report that OAQHA

Brooke Bradley running for AQYHA Director position

Brooke Bradley running for a 2017-2018 AQHYA Director position interviewed by Alex Black Where do you live and with whom?  I live in Plain City, Ohio with my parents Dan & Melissa and my two younger sisters, Blaire and Brenna.   How do you want to be seen by your peers? I want to be seen by my peers as kind, encouraging, fair and a good listener.   What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses (personal & horse related)? Why? My biggest strength with horses is my hard work, I have had to work VERY hard to get where I’m at today. My talented horses have helped, but it took a while to “click”. My personal strength is being trusting. I look for the very best in people and try to accept everyone as they are, faults and all.

Going on trips with my mom across the country and state.   Tell us something no one knows about you. Not many people know that I raise and show pigs to take to fairs.   Where can we find you when

Age: 18 Where do you live and with who? I live in Frankfurt, Ohio, with my mom and dad, Samantha and Kevin Patterson.   How did you get involved in horses? My cousin used to work at a racehorse barn, so I would go with her and help brush the horses. One day, she finally put me on one and have always ridden since.   What discipline(s)/class(es) do you show in and why did you choose that discipline or class(es)? I show in Western Pleasure. I chose to show in it because I am a perfectionist, and the pleasure is all about controlling the horse’s movement, along with perfecting the horse, not yourself.   What would be impossible for you to give up? (something that's not horse related) Whenever I am not riding or showing horses, I am

Top Six Reasons why Youth Should Participate in their State Association

BY EMILY AMBROSE FOR GOHORSESHOW  ON MARCH 23, 2017 As we walked into Jim Norick arena together in Oklahoma City, side-by-side-by-side while screaming Ohio, my heart raced from pure excitement. All the youth exhibitors surrounding me had smiles on their faces as we all strutted for the Parade of Teams at the AQHYA World Show. Little did I know that after August, those people would become some of my closest friends. Following the world show in 2016, I began to participate with the Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association (OQHYA) and have since attended the monthly meetings, helped with events at Congress, and took part in the year-end banquet this past February. Now that I avidly participate in OQHYA, I realize that

About

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association was established in 1951, and made its mission to encourage the breeding and competition of Quarter Horses in Ohio, as well as to provide educational opportunities about the breed. In the beginning, OQHA sponsored classes at open shows in the state, later establishing its own breeder's futurity, and eventually year-end awards for AQHA-approved events. The association hosted a two-day clinic in 1962 at The Ohio State University that included discussions on nutrition, breeding management, parasites, grooming, fitting and equipment, and demonstrations on showmanship, horsemanship, reining, roping, and cutting. With the success of that event, other clinics soon followed.
