Maggie Cain
Name: Maggie Cain Age: 16 Where do you live and with who? I live in Sunbury, Ohio with my mom, my dad, and my younger brother. How did you get involved in horses? I got involved through my mom because she barrel raced, and I’ve always been in the barn since an early age. What disciplines/classes do you show in and why did you choose those disciplines/classes? I show in contesting because it’s based on a clock and you get to go fast, and it’s an adrenaline rush. What is something non- horse related that would be impossible for you to give up? Gavin Patterson
Age: 18 Where do you live and with who? I live in Frankfurt, Ohio, with my mom and dad, Samantha and Kevin Patterson. How did you get involved in horses? My cousin used to work at a racehorse barn, so I would go with her and help brush the horses. One day, she finally put me on one and have always ridden since. What discipline(s)/class(es) do you show in and why did you choose that discipline or class(es)? I show in Western Pleasure. I chose to show in it because I am a perfectionist, and the pleasure is all about controlling the horse’s movement, along with perfecting the horse, not yourself. What would be impossible for you to give up? (something that's not horse related) Whenever I am not riding or showing horses, I am

Top Six Reasons why Youth Should Participate in their State Association
BY EMILY AMBROSE FOR GOHORSESHOW ON MARCH 23, 2017 As we walked into Jim Norick arena together in Oklahoma City, side-by-side-by-side while screaming Ohio, my heart raced from pure excitement. All the youth exhibitors surrounding me had smiles on their faces as we all strutted for the Parade of Teams at the AQHYA World Show. Little did I know that after August, those people would become some of my closest friends. Following the world show in 2016, I began to participate with the Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association (OQHYA) and have since attended the monthly meetings, helped with events at Congress, and took part in the year-end banquet this past February. Now that I avidly participate in OQHYA, I realize that

About
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association was established in 1951, and made its mission to encourage the breeding and competition of Quarter Horses in Ohio, as well as to provide educational opportunities about the breed. In the beginning, OQHA sponsored classes at open shows in the state, later establishing its own breeder's futurity, and eventually year-end awards for AQHA-approved events. The association hosted a two-day clinic in 1962 at The Ohio State University that included discussions on nutrition, breeding management, parasites, grooming, fitting and equipment, and demonstrations on showmanship, horsemanship, reining, roping, and cutting. With the success of that event, other clinics soon followed.

My Year So Far...
July 6, 2016 I cannot believe that the year is already half over and that summer is upon us. I have been extremely fortunate to be able to travel to the Ohio Equine Affaire and SOQHA’s Madness. Both of which were wonderful events where I made lifelong memories. The Equine Affaire is something that I have attended numerous times growing up…this year I got to see the event in a whole different light. When I first arrived and was walking around, I somewhat forgot that I may have stood out in my sparkling sash and crown. Spectators all around gazed and smiled and I soon realized that I was in for a treat. To me, I am just your average girl who loves horses and has been very blessed. To others around me, I was the “Belle of the ball.”
