2024 Congress Cup: Most Successful Yet

With perfect weather, a beautiful course, and a worthy cause, the 4th annual  Congress Cup charity golf outing was one for the books as participants "Battled for the Buckle." Organized by the Ohio Quarter Horse Foundation and held at  Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club in Sunbury, Ohio, the event not only provided a world-class experience, but also served as a means to generate funds for the annual Foundation scholarships. Rattlesnake Ridge provided the ideal backdrop for the day; a private course, renowned for its gorgeous landscapes and exceptional amenities. OQHA PAST PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS HALL OF FAME MEMBER ALAN POTTS PASSES

It is with heavy hearts that the Ohio Quarter Horse Association announces the passing of Alan R. Potts of Coschocton, on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Alan was born in Morgan County, Ohio on November 11, 1934 to the late Charles Elmer and Jessie (Fitch) Potts. He was a 1952 graduate of Pennsville High School and worked at Malta Manufacturing in Malta, Ohio before moving to Coschocton. He was employed at General Electric for 39 years and retired from there in 1995. Alan was a very accomplished horseman, beginning in his childhood. His first horse, Vicky, was a paint horse in the 1940s and the first 4-H horse project in Morgan County. He learned to rope from his brother, which led to him competing and eventually training

On Wednesday, October 4, Capitol Square got a taste of western culture when the All American Quarter Horse Congress paid a visit to the Ohio Statehouse, bringing four American Quarter Horses to the steps of the President William McKinley monument.  A press conference was held, featuring remarks from Lt. Governor Jon Husted, Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik, Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge, and Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA) CEO Dr. Scott Myers. Under clear skies and amidst the picturesque landscapes of Sunbury, Ohio, the 3rd annual Congress Cup charity golf outing unfolded at the esteemed Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club. Organized by the Ohio Quarter Horse Foundation, this event not only provided an exceptional golfing experience but also served as a means to generate funds for Foundation scholarships. Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club set the stage for a memorable day of golf. This private course, renowned for its stunning landscapes and exceptional facilities, welcomed 19 teams for a total of 76 golfers, making it the largest and most successful golf outing to date. The Congress Cup Impact

Every year, the Ohio Quarter Horse Foundation hosts a 4-person scramble golf outing to raise money for its scholarship program. The Congress Cup, the name given to the event in 2021, was held on July 15 at Bent Tree Golf Club in Sunbury, Ohio. Bent Tree’s course stretches over 167 acres of naturally wooded, rolling terrain and is regarded as one of the best championship courses in central Ohio. Designed by Dennis Griffiths, this course features grass tees, fairways and greens, as well as many bunkers and abundant water. Executive Director Dr. Scott Myers Inducted into the All American Quarter Horse Congress Hall of Fame

Scott Myers  is the son of  Ronnie and Sally Myers of  North Hampton  Ohio.  Scott attended Woodridge High School and  graduated  in 1977.  He attended Kentucky Westland  University and graduated with an undergraduate  degree in Biology.  He then attended The Ohio State  University  and  perused  a doctorate  of  Veterinary  Medicine.  He  graduated  from The Ohio State  University  in 1985  as Dr. Scott Myers, DVM.   He went to work at the Sharron Center  Veterinarian  hospital and practiced with Dr. Dave  McDonald  and Dr. Connie Barns until 1989 when he then opened his own practice called Hunting Rid ge Animal H ospital.  Dr. Myers married  Dr. Leslie Cook  in 1993 and had two daughters, Taylor who was born
