Bill Coffman Passes
William "Bill" Paul Coffman, 76 years of age, and a former resident of Marion, Ohio, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020, at O'Neill Healthcare in Bay Village. He was born September 12, 1943, in Marion, Ohio where he graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1961. After high school, Bill went on to pursue his genuine love of horses with a 60 year career in the horse business. Bill was a nationally recognized horseman and judge. He trained and showed numerous Congress and World Show champions. Along with his own family, Bill's horses and the Quarter Horse community that he knew and loved were his passion throughout his life. Survivors include his daughters Kelly Coffman (Rex Reeser) and Karie Coffman

Ted Handel Passes
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Ted Handel. Ted was a director of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and a long time Congress supporter and friend. Ted will be dearly missed. Prayers to his family, especially his wife Judi. A memorial service celebrating the life of Arthur Theodore “Ted” Handel, Jr., age 73, of Mt. Perry, will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 7, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, with Pastor Jeff Gill, officiating. 2019 Awards Banquet In the Books
The 2019 Ohio Quarter Horse Awards Banquet held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Hilton Downtown Columbus was bigger than ever! The banquet room was packed with more than 480 in attendance and awards presented to the 2019 OQHA award winners. Alexis Taylor, 2019 OQHA Queen, kicked off the night welcoming guests and inviting OQHA Director, Justin Billings and the 2019 Congress Queen, Mariah Sherer, to the stage lead the attendees in an invocation before dinner. The 2019 OQHA President, Brent Maxwell followed the three course meal by reflecting on his year in office and presenting Kelli Diaz, Kristine Nagy, and Ron Kendle with President’s Awards. OQHA NYATT TAKES HOME THE WIN
The National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT) brings together youth equestrians from Quarter Horse affiliates across the United States and Canada. Divided into two divisions, this year’s Congress tournament hosted 52 teams. The tournament allows a team to send two exhibitors in each of the offered classes: Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Reining, and Barrels. The Ohio Quarter Horse Association team placed very well, taking home 1 st place in Division I! Individual placings include: Barrels: Maggie Cain and WESTWARD MEMORIES, 4 th Place. Largest EOQHA Show to Date
Exhibitors enjoyed a fun and successful show this past weekend at the Ohio Expo Center, hosted by Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association. The final EOQHA show of the year, and the largest EOQHA show to date, featured 4 sets of points and over 1,300 exhibitors per judge! There were 206 trail entries, 180 showmanship entries, 169 horsemanship entries, and split classes in hunter under saddle and western pleasure. The show ran smoothly under the EOQHA board of directors and show manager Casey Devitt. The show was AQHA and NSBA points approved as well. The event totals are in – these were the top AQHA shows and circuits in 2018.
From The American Quarter Horse Association From February in Las Vegas to the tail end of the year in Florida, AQHA members turned out in droves to support shows, circuits and special events across the United States. Combined, the overall Top-10 AQHA shows saw entries totaling 93,992 in 2018. Rankings were calculated by dividing the total number of entries for each event by the event’s total number of show numbers. “Congratulations to the show management teams behind these top shows. The 2018 OQHA President, Chris Cecil Darnell followed the three course meal by reflecting on her year in office and presenting Valerie Sturgeon an appreciation award for her years of service as the OQHYA Advisor. Judging & Hippology
Hippology - The Study of the Horse This contest is an opportunity to learn about all things horse related. From anatomy to weeds, and nutrition to carriages, we will be looking at many topics this year. This Congress Contest will include placing four classes during the hudging portion, a multiple choice test, questions on real objects in stations, and working together on a team problem to solve a given scenario. Courtney Hilty
Name: Courtney Hilty Where do you live and with who? I live in Huber Heights, Ohio and I live with my sister Natalie and my parents, Tim and Gretchen Hilty. Walnut Hills Farm is also the home of our three dogs Bridget, Bandit, and KateSpade as well as our six horses and six chickens. How did you get involved in horses? I became involved with horses when I was eight years old. We took lessons at the Sullenberger farm in Piqua, Ohio. We started in 4-H at the Miami county fair and later became AQHA members in 2014. Soon after we joined IEA and eventually YEDA. We also joined a rodeo drill team called Midwest Express that later became Silver Lining Drill Team. We now show at the Clark County fair and show with Piper Performance Horses.

Ohio NYATT Team Brings Home Division I Champion Title
Youth from state and regional Quarter Horse associations across the U.S. and Canada gathered for the largest National Youth Team Tournament in the world at the All American Quarter Horse Congress Sunday, October 21. This year’s National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT) hosted more than 60 teams and offered a new division of competition. Division I is a team entered in eight to fourteen NYATT classes while Division II teams are entered in one to seven NYATT classes. This split is only for the awards ceremony so that each division competes for separate top ten division awards. Each team may consist of four to fourteen riders, with no more than two members competing in each of the seven NYATT classes: Barrel
