OQHYA World Finals Qualifying Criteria

The AQHA Youth World Championship Show is the world’s largest single-breed horse show just for youth held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in August. In order to participate, AQHYA members must qualify to show. There are currently three ways to qualify to represent Ohio at the AQHYA World Show:

Qualify Nationally

The national qualifying period is from May 1, 2012 through April 30, 2013. AQHA determines the number of points youth need to accumulate in each class to qualify. Visit www.aqha.com for a complete list of all qualifying points.

Youth that wish to qualify nationally must complete and turn in their entries, which are sent via mail from AQHA, to the OQHA Youth Advisor at or before the June Meeting. However, youth that wish to receive benefits and stipend from OQHA must participate and meet current year fundraiser requirements, as well as attend at least two OQHYA meetings between January 1, 2013 and July 1, 2013.

Qualify In-State

To qualify in-state, youth must be members of OQHYA, reside in Ohio, participate and meet current year fundraiser requirements, as well as attend at least two OQHYA meetings between January 1, 2013 and July 1, 2013. Youth must also place at a minimum of three shows, accumulating at least 10 points during the qualifying period. Points will be awarded on the basis of one point for each horse the exhibitor defeats plus one point for the exhibitor up to nine places. There will be 30 points maximum awarded for each class per judge. A youth’s 10 best shows during the qualifying period will count.

The in-state qualifying period begins on the Saturday of the SOQHA Winter Circuit in March and runs through May 31, 2012.

Qualify by Declaration

Youth that wish to qualify for classesnot usually offered at regular shows or cannot meet the point requirements must declare their interest in competing at the AQHYA World Championship Show by sending a certified letter of declaration with return receipt to the OQHA office by or on March 1, 2013. The youth must be a member of OQHYA by March 1, 2013, participate and meet current year fundraiser requirements, as well as attend at least two OQHYA meetings between January 1, 2013 and July 1, 2013.

However, if such class(es) are offered six or more times, participation in these classes will take precedence over the letter of declaration in determining who will be chosen as state representatives.
