At the time of this publication, SOQHA will have hosted its’ fourth show of the season at the Champions Center in Springfield. The split/combined event was held on July 5 and July 6, 2008. This show was one of two fundraising shows for our youth association. The SOJQHA would like to extend their thanks to all exhibitors who participated at the show, as well as all of the SOQHA directors and parents who supported the show and volunteered countless hours of their time.
It’s not too late to enter the 2008 SOQHA Futurity, which will be held on August 29, 30, and 31, 2008. Although SOQHA offers a one-payment format, if your entries are postmarked prior to August 1, the entry fee is $75 plus a penalty of $150, for a total of $225 per class. If your entries are postmarked August 1 through August 25, the entry fee is $75 plus a penalty of $200 for a total of $275 per class. Entries will be accepted on show weekend with an entry fee of $75 plus a penalty of $250 for a total of $325 per class. Entry forms, Futurity Guidelines, and the show bill can be found on the SOQHA web site, www.soqha.com. Judges for this year’s event are Benny Sargent, Chele Murrell, Steven Cooper, Debra Jones-Wright and Betsy Tuckey. SOQHA will again be awarding the Lee Mills Memorial Trophy to the overall grand champion weanling colt and overall grand champion weanling filly. OAQHA/Leeman Farms Team Challenge results have been tabulated through July 5 and 6. Please visit www.soqha.com for a complete list of team standings and team members. Thanks to the OAQHA and Fritz Leeman Farms for sponsoring this event. The Challenge runs through the SOQHA Turkey Circuit show and prizes will be given out at our annual awards banquet to be held in January 2009.
We would like to remind everyone to mark the 2008 Turkey Circuit on their calendars! There will be a single day show on November 28, followed by a split/combined event on November 29 and 30. NSBA added money classes will be held on Saturday/Sunday. Judges for the three-day event will be Mike Hawkins, Dean Ross and Tim Finkenbinder. We will once again be serving a complimentary Turkey Dinner on Thursday evening. Please make your stall reservations by contacting Lisa Perry at 614-582-6067.
The July meeting of the SOQHA Board of Directors will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at 7:00 pm. The youth held their July meeting on July 5th during the show. The August meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 13th, at 7:00 pm. Once again the youth will hold their August meeting at the Futurity show. Meetings are held at the Damon’s located in Wilmington.

SOQHYA Congress Team
Looking for twelve individuals to represent Southern Ohio at the Congress National Youth Activity Team Tournament. The Congress National Youth Activity Team Tournament is organized to allow two exhibitors per team to compete in: showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, reining, hunter under saddle and barrel racing Reminder of the rules for the Congress Youth Team. Youth must attend 3 meetings. Must have 10 points in class in which youth wishes to qualify. Provide $50.00 in sponsors All sponsorships must be sent to the Advisor by May 15.. Work four (4) hours at SOQHYA or SOQHA shows. Only Two shows weekends to get in your time.

OQHA Horse Show Incentive Program 2008
*The Ohio Quarter Horse Association has adopted a new Horse Show Incentive Program for 2008. The OQHA is donating $4,000 to SOQHA in the form of $100 vouchers to be given out at one of our shows. They will be given out in forty youth, amateur and select amateur classes. To receive a voucher you must be an OQHA member and there must be five or more exhibitors in the class. We will give away the vouchers at our May show. We would like to thank OQHA for supporting our horse show exhibitors
