Conditions for Congress Longe Line, Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle Stakes Classes
A. Unless Congress rules differ, classes will be shown under NSBA
rules.
B. There will be one go and a finals for the Open division, and a
separate finals for the Limited division. All horses will show
in the go round. The top 15 placings in the go-round will be
eligible for the Open finals. All Limited riders standing in the
arena when the finalists in the go-round are named will be
eligible for the Limited finals, regardless of whether they are
named one of the 15 finalists to the Open division. Placings in
the finals only will determine the winners.
C. In the Non-Pro classes (8840, 8841, 8850, 8851, 8820, 8821, 8835,
8836), the horse being shown must be exhibited by a non-pro
(i.e. amateur, novice amateur, select, youth or novice youth
card holder), and ownership of the horse must follow NSBA
rules.
D. 60% of the purse will be paid in the Open division finals and
40% of the purse will be paid in the Limited division finals (in
classes that have Limited divisions). Ten places will be paid as
follows: 26%, 20%, 15%, 8%, 6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 3%.
E. These stakes classes will be run under Congress event
medication rules.
F. Prize money checks will be made out and sent to the owner
of the horse, after all drug testing results have been received
(usually mid-December).
G. All horses making the finals may have their markings verified
against registration papers.
H. Rider changes must be made no later than 2:00 p.m. the
day before the first go-round is shown. It is the exhibitor’s
responsibility to report rider changes. If this policy is not
followed, the exhibitor will be charged a $25 fee.
I. NSBA membership is mandatory
Congress Working Hunter Classic Stakes
Working Hunter Warm-Up Class
Entry Fee - $40 for each Warm-Up class
Class # 0036 - 3’ Working Hunter Warm-Up Open Division
- Open to horses entered in the Open Working Hunter Classic or
any AQHA Open Jumping or Working Hunter class.
Class # 0037 - 3’ Working Hunter Warm-Up Non-Pro Division
- Open to horses entered in the Non-Pro Working Hunter Classic
or any AQHA Amateur or Youth division Jumping or Working
Hunter class.
Class # 0038 - 2’6” Working Hunter Warm-Up Open Division
- Open to horses entered in the Open Working Hunter Classic or
any AQHA Open Jumping or Working Hunter class.
Class # 0039 - 2’6” Working Hunter Warm-Up Non-Pro Division
- Open to horses entered in the Non-Pro Working Hunter Classic
or any AQHA Amateur or Youth division Jumping or Working
Hunter class.
Conditions for the Working Hunter Classic Warm-Up Classes
A. Working Hunter Warm-Up Class will be held in Celeste
starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11.
B. Exhibitors must enter the Warm-Up class as a regular
Congress class.
C. Entries will work in draw order.
D. One Open Warm-Up entry per horse – horse must be entered
in the Open Working Hunter Classic or any AQHA Open
Jumping or Working Hunter class.
E. One Non-Pro Warm-Up entry per horse – horse must be
entered in the Non-Pro Working Hunter Classic or any AQHA
Amateur or Youth division Jumping or Working Hunter class.
F. Warm-Up classes will not be placed and will offer no awards.
G. Open schooling will be available in the Buckeye Arena.
H. Entry fee is $40.
I. No schooling will be available in the Celeste, other than
the Warm-Up classes.
Working Hunter Classic Stakes
1st go and finals – the evening of October 11

Non-Pro Working Hunter Classic Stakes
1st go and finals – October 11 (after the Open division)

Estimated Purse - $10,000 ($5,000 added)
Conditions for the Working Hunter Classic Stakes Classes
Both the Non-Pro and Open Working Hunter Classic Stakes will
be conducted under AQHA rules for Working Hunter, with the
following exceptions:
A. $300 entry fee for both the Open and Non-Pro divisions is
due on August 25 (along with any AQHA entries and stall
payments).
B. The fence height will be a maximum of 3 feet.
C. All horses will compete in the first go. The top fifteen scores
(and the ties for fifteenth) will return for the finals.
D. Only registered AQHA horses are permitted.
E. Open Classic riders may ride up to two senior and two junior
horses.
F. Non-Pro riders may only show two horses total in the Non-
Pro Working Hunter Classic.
G. If 50 entries or more are entered, 15 places will be paid as
follows: 20%, 16%, 13%, 10%, 8%, 7%, 6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 2.5%, 2%, 1.5%,
1%, 1%.
H. If 49 or less are entered, 10 places will be paid as follows: 26%,
20%, 15%, 8%, 6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 2%.
I. Judges will place 15 horses, regardless of the number of
entries.
J. Non-Pro AQHA youth or amateur cards must be shown to
prove eligibility in the Non-Pro Hunter Classic.
Congress Tie Down Classic
Class # 8855
Entry Fee - $350 + $50 office charge (total $400)
Purse - $10,000 + 80% of entry fees
Conditions for the Congress Tie Down Classic
A. 20% of the net purse will be paid to the two gos with five
places paid as follows: 30%, 25%, 20%, 15%, 10%.
B. 10% of the net purse will be paid to the five fastest times in
the short go.
C. 50% of the net purse will be paid to the composite with ten
places paid as follows: 26%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 8%, 6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 3%.
D. There will be two go-rounds and a short go-round. The fastest
composite times in the go-rounds qualify for the short go, up
to a maximum of 20 ropers.
E. Monies will be paid to the five fastest times in each go and
the short go. Unearned place money in the short go will be
paid as grounds money.
F. The average winner will be based on the fastest composite
times.
G. The Classic will be run under Congress rules, which are similar
to other timed roping rules, but the AQHA rules on attire and
conduct will be enforced. Detailed rules will be available upon
request from the show secretary or Entry Office.
H. Calves will be drawn and exhibitors will work in the order
the calves are put in the chute. Show management will be the
only authority on stock suitability.
I. In case of injury to the roper entered, another roper may
be substituted, provided a doctor’s statement is presented
explaining the injury and confirming the roper will be unable
to compete. Substitutions must be received no later than 2:00
p.m. the day before the first go-round.
J. Any breed of horse may be ridden, and each horse may be
ridden by more than one roper.
K. Each roping horse is required to have a stall and a stall fee
paid with the entry.
Miscellaneous Stakes Classes
Amateur Versatility
The Amateur Versatility is closed to new entries as of August 1.
Nominations for this class are due April 1 of each year. A mailing
is sent to all horse show agents on the Congress mailing
list in late February to enter this event. Contact OQHA after
the 2008 Congress if you would like to be added to this mailing
list.
Small Fry Horsemanship
Entry Fee - $15
No Purse
A. Entries are limited to exhibitors nine years of age and
younger (as of January 1) who have not previously won the
Congress Small Fry Horsemanship class.
B. Horses and ponies of any breed may be shown, but no stallions
are permitted.
C. Horse or pony must be owned by a member of the immediate
family, as defined by AQHA ownership rules for youth
classes.
D. Exhibitors in this class may not enter any other class, except
Showmanship and/or Halter.
E. Gaits in the ring are limited to the walk and jog both directions
of the ring.
F. Exhibitors are required to have western attire and tack.
G. No pattern will be used. Exhibitors will be judged on the rail.
Limited Halter Classes
Limited Open Halter
Classes # 8865-8879
No additional entry fee
Purse - $900
A. $900 purse will be paid to six places as follows: $200, $180, $160,
$140, $120, $100.
B. All entries must also be entered and paid into the corresponding
AQHA Open Halter class.
C. Open and Limited Open Halter classes will run concurrently,
so the same exhibitor must be entered in both classes.
D. Exhibitors placing first twice or more in Open AQHA Halter,
or four times or more in Limited Open Halter, at the five prior
Congress shows, are not eligible for the Limited Open division.
E. The Limited Open classes are not AQHA-approved, but will run
under AQHA medical guidelines.
F. All exhibitor changes must be made no later than 2:00 p.m. the
day before the class will be shown.
Limited Amateur Halter
Classes # 8880-8899
No additional entry fee
Purse - $900
A. $900 purse will be paid to six places as follows: $200, $180, $160,
$140, $120, $100.
B. All entries must also be entered and paid into the corresponding
AQHA Amateur Halter class.
C. Amateur and Limited Amateur Halter classes will run concurrently,
so the same exhibitor must be entered in both classes.
D. Exhibitors placing first twice or more in Amateur AQHA
Halter, or two times or more in Limited Amateur Halter, at
the five prior Congress shows, are not eligible for the Limited
Amateur division.
E. The Limited Amateur classes are not AQHA-approved, but will
run under AQHA medical guidelines.
F. All exhibitor changes must be made no later than 2:00 p.m. the
day before the class will be shown.
