|
Name: Laurel Champlin
Horse’s Name: Skys Blue Eyes (Skyler)
Hometown: Gardnerville, NV
Horse’s Age: 10
Congress Championship Class: Amateur Select Hunt Seat Equitation
Other classes you are showing in at this Congress: I showed in Amateur Select Horsemanship (placing 7th) and Amateur Select Hunter Under Saddle (Reserve Congress Champion).
Have you shown at the Congress before? The last time I was at the Congress was in 2002, and Skys Blue Eyes won the Three-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle Futurity Limited Division. I was Reserve that year with him in the Three-Year-Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle Limited Division.
How long have you been showing? I have been riding and showing for 35 years.
Do you show with a trainer? Yes, I show with Jason Martin and Charlie Cole of HighPoint Performance Horses.
How was your Congress experience? At the Select World Show this year, I won the preliminaries in Hunt Seat Equitation. During my final pattern, I performed a lead change that wasn’t in the pattern. I ended up 15th. Winning under all four judges at the Congress was true redemption.
Tell us about yourself: I have been married for 21 years and have three beautiful daughters. Animals and horses are a family thing. My husband drives Halflingers.
Tell us about your horse: When Skyler was three years old he tore his suspensory ligament. I spent two years rehabilitating him. It was well worth it. He is a great horse and I love him.
What are your goals for the future? Finally at 10 years old, Skyler is becoming a true champion. I will show him next year.
