Congress Masters Halter Classes Show for the First Time

MastersLine

The Congress Masters program originated in 2004 as a way for the All American Quarter Horse Congress to promote the natural talent of some very special young Quarter Horses. The Masters started with a slot class for maiden two-year-old Western Pleasure horses, and then added the Masters Hunter Under Saddle, Masters Weanling Halter Fillies and Masters Weanling Halter Colts/Geldings classes, which will all show for the first time in 2007.

Masters6The Masters Halter classes both debuted on Sunday, October 14. There was no separate ticket required for the event, but many trainers and Congress attendees crowded around the arena in the Coliseum to the ‘best of the best’ weanlings.

Both the fillies and the colts/geldings classes paid out over $15,000 to each winner, with the highest placing eligible limited exhibiter also being awarded an additional $5,000.

18 fillies showed in the Congress Masters Halter Fillies class on Sunday. Ross Roark led in the winner, an unnamed filly out of Doubley Dazzley and owned by Laurie Sagers of Dagsboro, Delaware. Reserve was awarded to Shesa Cool Wish, a weanling filly owned by Charles Haselden of Good Hope, Pennsylvania, and led by Gene Parker. The winner of the Congress Masters Halter Fillies was awarded $15,960, while the second place horse was awarded $12,540.

MastersAwards115 geldings and colts were led in for the Congress Masters Halter Colts/Geldings class, with Heza Stemwinder and Randy Jacobs placing first. Heza Stemwinder is owned by Dr. Gigi Wood Davis of Savannah, Tennessee, and won the prize of $15,120. The second place winner was chosen as Ima Mocha Joe, owned by Richard & Jo Peden of Alpharetta, Georgia, and showed by Phillip Wilkinson. Ima Mocha Joe was awarded $11,880 for his second place finish.
